Protect your electric vehicle charging system against overvoltages

The electric vehicle, and therefore the electrification of transportation, is consolidating as a global trend, with undoubted benefits and attractiveness for the market as it is an innovative and clean technology.

In order to guarantee the daily recharging of the electric vehicle under efficient and safe conditions, suitable recharging points must be installed for the electric vehicle with sufficient protection devices , based on the requirements established by ITC-BT-52 ( November 2017, mandatory compliance).

The Guide to the Complementary Technical Instruction ITC-BT-52 “Installations for special purposes. Infrastructure for electric vehicle recharging” of the Low Voltage Electrotechnical Regulation (REBT), establishes the mandatory installation of transient and permanent surge protectors (DPS+POP) in all electric vehicle recharging installations. As quoted in the technical instruction: “6.4 Surge protection measures. All circuits must be protected against temporary and transient overvoltages.”

Cirprotec, a global reference in the field of surge protection, has participated and advised the development committee of the ITC52 standard. As a result of this background, Cirprotec offers specific solutions that meet the requirements of the ITC- BT-52. All products have been specifically designed and tested according to the most demanding national and international product standards, as required by UNE-EN 50550 and IEC 61643-11.

The recent approval of the standard, and the still infrequent installation of recharging points, generate certain doubts about the correct design and sizing of an effective surge protection; if you have any doubts or requirements, our technical-sales department will be pleased to help you and solve them.
