Lightning protection

Go to to devices that are part of the capture system of an LPS:
- Active electronic lightning rods with Early Streamer Emission (ESE) devices, to NFC 17-102, CTE SU8, UNE 21186.
- Air terminals (Faradization - passive) to IEC 62305.
- Masts and anchorages.

Use nimbus® Project Designer to work out what lightning rod you should install.

Early streamer emission (ESE) lightning rods

Lightning rod with streaming device (ESE). Early streamer: 15, 30, 45 and 60 μs. NF C 17-102:2011, UNE 21186:2011 y CTE SU 8.
Remotely testeable lightning rod with ESE tecnology. Early streamer: 15, 30, 45 and 60 μs. NF C 17-102:2011, UNE 21186:2011 y CTE SU 8.

Air terminals

Franklin type lightning air terminal rods, AISI 316 stainless steel (with adapt. piece).

Adaptors

Piece that connects the lightning rod to the down conductor.
A down conductor system should be composed of all the necessary components to discharge lightning energy to ground in a controlled and safe way.

Masts and mast anchorages

To provide the lightning rod with the necessary height and assure an appropriate coverage.
Anchorages for wall or roof, for holding the lightning rod mast.
Trestle tower with guy wires included, for the elevation of the lightning rod.
Pylons with concrete foundation, for rising the lightning rod on the ground.

Clamps

Clamp to fix the down conductor.

Cable supports

To fix the down conductor in all its trajectory and avoid any movement.

Down conductors

Conducting element destined to conduct the lightning current from the rod to the ground.

Connecting sleeves

To disconnect the grounding system and measure the reistance.

Protection pipe

To avoid mechanical shocs against the down conductor.

Spark gaps

Spark gap for equipotential protection for the lightning rod down conductor system.
The grounding system is essential for the proper operation of the LPS and should be made up of all the components needed to dissipate lightning and surge currents.

Clamps

Clamp to fix the down conductor.

Earth electrodes

Conductor object to establish a direct earth connection.

Ground connection and equipotentiality

Object to electrically connect two metallic surfaces in order to protect accidental electric discharges.

Earth enhancing compounds

Composites that increase the level of soluble salts in the ground.
It is essential to properly maintain all lightning protection systems. In fact, certain components may lose their effectiveness over time due to corrosion, inclement weather, mechanical shock and lightning strikes. To satisfy the requirements of the standards, the mechanical and electrical characteristics of a lightning protection system must be maintained over its entire life.

Lightning discharge counters

Lightning discharge counters.

Maintenance testers

Devices that check the status of the early streamer emission circuit as well as the equivalent degree of protection of the lightning rod
Nimbus lightning rod tester for testing the early streamer emission internal circuit as well as the level of protection of the lightning rods.
