What are Overvoltages?
When voltage rates exceed the values that a typical installation can withstand, they may cause any damage from early aging to total equipment destruction, even setting the installation in fire.

Installation entrance paths
Any metallic conductor is indeed a path for propagation of externally (and internally) generated overvoltages. Power distribution lines and telephone networks are made of especially long stretches of cables and wires, a great deal of wich travel outside the buildings for interconnection of installations. These lines are thus the most exposed, the data so-called signal lines: communication, radiofrequency and measurement and control lines.
